Thinking seven-passenger premium luxury crossover? The Infiniti QX60 (formerly the Infiniti JX and on sale now here at Beaverton Infiniti, Portland Oregon) is filled with exclusive technology and priced thousands less than the Q7, and it has quickly upstaged the Audi Q7. Comparing the two reveals that performance, space and luxury don't have to cost more.

The QX60 3.5 features a 265-hp 3.5-liter V6 and front-wheel drive. The QX60 AWD sends that 265 hp to all four wheels thanks to Infiniti Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, and both versions use a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with "Sport" and manual shift modes. While the Audi Q7 is standard with quattro® all-wheel drive, its starting MSRP of $47,700 is still significantly higher than the Infiniti QX60 AWD, and it doesn't offer a two-wheel drive option. The QX60 also offers a Hybrid model, where the Audi Q7 does not.

The standard engine in the Audi Q7 is a 3.0-liter V6 that's supercharged. As a result, the Q7 has a significantly larger appetite for fuel compared to the QX60. The Audi returns an EPA-estimated 16 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, while the QX60 returns 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway with front-wheel drive, and 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway with all-wheel drive. For maximum efficiency, choose the QX60 Hybrid to get 26 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

Standard in the QX60 are leather seating, Bluetooth® hands-free, Infiniti Drive Mode Selector, multifunction second-row seating with easy third-row access, three-zone Automatic Temperature Control, a moonroof and RearView Monitor. Other standard QX60 features, such as rear HVAC with separate controls, Intelligent Key, and power tilting/telescoping steering column will cost you even more at the Audi store. The QX60 is also nearly 500 pounds lighter than the Q7, which makes it more nimble and more fuel efficient.

The price differential opens up the opportunity for upfitting your QX60, and Infiniti makes that easy by offering well-integrated and exclusive technology. Seven equipment packages are available for the QX60, containing premium audio systems, like 13-speaker and 15-speaker premium Bose systems; a multitude of driver convenience amenities, like a two-driver memory system that stores settings for seat, steering wheel and exterior mirrors, and the Enhanced Intelligent Key, which stores the last memory position and audio, climate and navigation settings. You can make your QX60 as luxurious as you want, with available heated and cooled front seats, heated second-row seats, maple wood trim and a second- and third-row moonroof.

Innovative available technology includes the easy-to-use Infiniti hard-drive Navigation with Voice Recognition system, which also provides voice control for the vehicle's infotainment functions. There's also the Infiniti Around View® Monitor with Moving Object Detection; Front and Rear Sonar System; Intelligent Cruise Control; Intelligent Brake Assist with Forward Collision Warning; Blind Spot Warning system; Backup Collision Intervention, which will apply the brakes to avoid a low-speed collision; Distance Control Assist; Active Trace Control, which uses selective braking to improve cornering; and more.

An Audi Q7 with navigation, surround sound, up-rated wheels and tires, and comparable technology to the QX60 sails right past $60,000, where you'll spend around $49,800 to get the same features in the QX60 AWD and even less in the QX60 with FWD. In the end, you also wind up spending more for a vehicle that doesn't offer, optionally or otherwise, some of the ground-breaking Infiniti technology, like Around View Monitor, and the comprehensive suite of safety and accident-avoidance and mitigation systems in the QX60, like Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention and Blind Spot Intervention®.

If you're using all three seating rows on a regular basis, you'll find that the Infiniti QX60 will make for happier passengers, too. That's because there's more room in every row of the QX60 that there is in the Q7, and maximum cargo volume is nearly five cubic feet larger. In addition, when all three rows are in use, the QX60 offers 15.8 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the third-row seats versus the Q7's 10.9 cubic feet. That's a significant advantage for the Infiniti.

For peace of mind, the Infiniti wins again. The QX60 comes with a four-year/60,000-mile basic new vehicle warranty and six-year/70,000-mile powertrain coverage. The Audi, on the other hand, comes with a four-year/50,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty, and no additional powertrain coverage. No wonder U.S. News ranked the QX60 ahead of the Q7 in the "Luxury Midsize SUV" category.

Thanks to its value, performance, luxury and utility, the Infiniti QX60 makes shopping for a three-row luxury crossover simple: Do you want to pay more and get less, or pay less and get more? Stop by soon to see and drive the Infiniti QX60 at our Beaverton Infiniti, and make your own comparison.

Key QX60 Advantages

  • Available 2-wheel drive - QX60 is available in front-wheel or all-wheel drive, allowing buyers to choose the vehicle that meets their needs. Audi Q7 is available only in all-wheel drive.
  • Standard Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition - All QX60s come equipped with the Infiniti Intelligent Key, which eliminates the need to use the remote keyless entry when locking or unlocking the doors, or the ignition key to start the engine. Audi Q7 offers a similar feature only on select trim levels.
  • More shoulder room and leg room in all three rows - QX60 offers more shoulder room than Audi Q7 in all three rows, especially the 3rd row (60.3/60.4/57.1 in. front/2nd/3rd vs. 58.7/58.1/48.6 in.). Similarly, QX60's leg room is greater than Audi Q7's in all three rows, especially the 2nd row (42.3/41.7/30.8 in. vs. 41.3/37.1/29.2 in.).
  • More cargo capacity - QX60's cargo capacity is greater than Audi Q7's with the all seats upright (15.8 cu. ft. vs. 10.9 cu. ft.) or with all seats folded (76.5 cu. ft. vs. 72.5 cu. ft.).
  • Longer basic and powertrain warranty coverage - QX60's limited warranty coverage exceeds Audi Q7's. The basic warranty covers 4 years/60,000 miles, and the powertrain warranty covers 6 years/70,000 miles. Audi Q7 offers just 4 years/50,000 miles of warranty coverage for both categories.
